Philadelphia, PA, April 14th 2023.- The Mexican Cultural Center and the Consulate of Mexico in Philadelphia invite the Mexican community and the general public to participate from April 30th to May 5th in the 2023 Mexican Week.
Mexican Week is comprised of a series of events that celebrate the rich diversity of Mexican culture through art, film, gastronomy, music and other cultural expressions.
The following activities will be part of the Mexican Week, in its tenth edition:
Sunday, April 30th.
12:00pm – 2:30pm: Children’s Day Celebration
Sacks Playground (400 Washington Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19147)
Free and a fun event with activities for all kids, including games, art & crafts, surprises, and much more!
3:00pm – 6:00pm: Carnaval de Puebla
Sacks Playground (400 Washington Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19147)
Annual parade to celebrate and represent the victory of the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862.
12:00pm – 5:00pm: Lele travels the world to Philadelphia

As part of her tour around the United States, Lele, the otomí indigenous artisanal doll, will visit Sacks Playground. Meet, greet and take a picture with her during this special stop!

5:00pm – 7:00pm: Mezcal pairing experience with chef Jesús García

Chef Jesús García hosts a sit-down mezcal and food pairing presentation featuring some of the most representative flavors of Mexican gastronomy.

Pennsylvania State Capitol Steps (N 3rd St, Harrisburg, PA 17120)
As part of her tour around the United States, Lele, the otomí indigenous artisanal doll, will visit the State Capitol’s Steps in Harrisburg. Meet, greet and take a picture with her during this special stop!

The Mexican Cultural Center (MCC) will host its first annual Friends of Mexico award luncheon. This is an outreach event where we will recognize organizations for their work and support to the community.

A Spanish guided tour of the Mexico and Central America Gallery, highlighting important details and artifacts from the Mayan and Aztec civilizations, including the traditional ballgame and huge monuments commemorating ancient rulers’ power, amongst others. 7:00pm: Movie “Frida” (2002), R-rated

Screening of Frida Kahlo’s biographic movie, one of the most acclaimed Mexican artists in history, in which her life, work and social struggle is highlighted.
