MEXICAN WEEK 2024 Press Release

Philadelphia, PA, April 14th, 2024.- The Mexican Cultural Center invites the Mexican community and the general public to participate from April 28th to May 4th in the 2024 Mexican Week.

Mexican Week is comprised of a series of events that celebrate the rich diversity of Mexican culture through art, film, and other cultural expressions.

The following activities will be part of the Mexican Week, in its eleventh edition:

  • Sunday, April 28th.

12:00pm – 3:00pm: Parade Carnaval de Puebla

1801 S Chadwick St, to 16th St towards Washington Ave ending at Sacks Playground. Annual parade to celebrate and represent the victory of the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862.

3:00pm – 6:00pm: Festival Carnaval de Puebla

Sacks Playground (400 Washington Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19147)

Free and fun event with activities for all the family, live music, dance, food and much more!

  • Monday, April 29th.

6:00pm – 7:30pm: Candle Workshop

Casa Mexico (1134 S. 9th St, Philadelphia, PA 19147)

Mexican entrepreneur will share her talent, providing us with the opportunity to learn how to create candles with an authentically Mexican touch.

5:30pm – 7:00pm: Children’s Day Celebration (Día del niño)

Anna C. Verna Playground in FDR Park

Free and a fun event with activities for all kids, including games, art & crafts, surprises, and much more!

10:00am – 8:00pm: Museum Day at Penn

The Penn Museum opens its doors to the community, inviting you to explore its fascinating galleries.

Join an English-guided tour of the Mexico and Central America Gallery, where details and significant artifacts will be highlighted.

11:30am – 1:30pm: Friends of Mexico

Philadelphia Downtown Philadelphia, Liberty Ballroom (1200 Filbert St, Philadelphia, PA 19107)

The Mexican Cultural Center (MCC) will host its second annual Friends of Mexico award luncheon. This is an outreach event where we will recognize organizations for their work and support to the community.

6:30pm: Movie “Museo” (2018), +18

Philadelphia Film Center (1412 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19102)

Is a riveting 2018 Mexican drama heist film directed by Alonso Ruizpalacios. It follows two veterinary students, Juan Núñez (Gael García Bernal) and Benjamín Wilson (Leonardo Ortizgris), as they plan to rob the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City during Christmas in 1985.
